With so many social media networks out there, it’s nearly impossible for any athletically gifted teenager to live a normal life outside of the media. Jabari Parker, (Duke) a gifted basketball player, probably would love to stay in school for another year or two but there will be plenty of agents telling him that he will have too much to lose by coming back.
Now whether that will persuade him to go for the riches waiting for him in the NBA or not remains to be seen.
Heck, Jabari may surprise us all and put basketball on the back burner for a couple of years and go on a mormon mission.
Under current Latter Day Saints mission guidelines: Young men may enter the missionary training center after graduating (high school) and reaching 18 years of age. Women may enter after their 19th birthday. Upper age limit is 25 years old for young men, no limit for young women. So if Jabari had a change of heart, and he is deemed worthy to go, he could still go anytime until he turns 25.
Even though he is not under any pressure from his parents or family to go on a mission, there may be a great amount of pressure from his mormon peers to do so.
Nobody knows the mind of Jabari Parker, but Jabari himself. Although I don’t have any predictions on what Parker will do, I just wish all the speculation would stop and people will let this young man make the best decision for him and his family.
