No matter how you feel about former Heisman trophy winner, Johnny ‘Football’ Manziel, you must admit that he is simply a great college football quarterback.
In his two years as a starter with Texas A&M, Johnny Football threw for 7,820 yards and 63 touchdowns. He also rushed for 2,169 yards with 30 touchdowns.
Many like to compare Manziel to Tim Tebow and believe he will not make it long-term in the NFL, but in my opinion, Manziel is much more of an accurate passer than Tebow and should have a better chance of succeeding.
What prevented Tebow from succeeding as an NFL quarterback was his poor throwing mechanics. This was clearly evident when his passer rating fell from 172.4 his junior season to 155.6 his senior season and that was a red flag for many.
Manziel on the other hand passer rating went from 155.3 during his freshman season to 172.9 during his sophomore season.
Also Manziel has a better career passing percentage than Tebow at 68.9 to 67.1.
Whether that translates into a successful NFL career remains to be seen but my only concern is his off the field antics. I don’t believe everything I read or hear from the media but I certainly believe there is a degree of truth that he lives a pretty wild life off the field.
Hopefully his off the field immaturity will catch up to his on the field maturity and he will have a very successful NFL career.
